A dead heat in the 55-meter dash between Shenendehowa's Damion Joyner and Anishaun Gilmore of Bishop Maginn highlighted the Section II state qualifying meet Saturday at Williams College.
Joyner and Gilmore established a Section II record with a time of 6.3 seconds. Both will represent the section at the state meet Saturday at Cornell University.
Joyner also qualified for next week's championships by placing second in the long jump. Joyner's leap of 21-3 inches was second only to Scotia's Scot Straight (21-7 1/4).
Hoosic Valley's outstanding distance runner, Jeremy Rogers, was a double qualifier, winning the 1,000 and 1,600. Rogers' 4:25.3 clocking in the 1,600 bettered that of Colonie's Dustin Freeman, and his time of 2:33.8 in the 1,000 beat out Shaun Zepf of Burnt Hills.
